The Hamilton Cardinals and Burlington Bandits met up at Nelson Park in Burlington on Thursday night for game four of the inaugural Skyway Series.  On this night the Bandits would get their first win of the series taking the game 4-3.  Jake Osborne had a pair of hits for the Cardinals, his second multiple hit game of the season.  Both of Osborne’s multiple hit games have been against Burlington.  For the Bandits, Tyler Hardie went three for three with a run and a pair of RBIs.

Hamilton got on the board first thanks to a pair of Bandit errors in the second inning.  Dre Celestijn reached base on one of the errors committed by Burlington and then moved to second on Jonathan Palumbo’s single.  Chris Beer would then lay down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners up a base.  Adam Shaver then brought in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to left. Osborne followed that up with a single to put runners on the corners.  Liam Wilson would then get on base by way of an error which allowed Palumbo to score and give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.

The Bandits threatened to score in the third by loading up the bases with a pair of singles by Keith Kandel and Adam Odd as well as a walk by Shaun Cooper to start the inning.  Jordan Brown would then hit into a 5-2-3 double play and Jim Martin flew out to left to end the threat.

In the fourth, Kevin Hussey led off the inning with double then scored after sacrifice flies by Hardie and Nolan Pettipiece to get the Bandits on the board.  Cooper would then lead off the Burlington fifth with a single and moved to second when Boston grounded out.  Hardie later hit a single which scored Cooper to tie the game up at two.

The Cardinals regained their lead in the top of the sixth.  Celestijn got on base with a fielder’s choice and then moved up 90-feet on Palumbo’s single.  Beer would then get a single of his own which brought in the go ahead run.  Jake Osborne would get a two out single to load up the bases but a fly out would end the inning.  The lead didn’t last long as Justin Gideon and Kandel each singled to open the inning.  Adam Odd would then hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Gideon to tie it at three.

Burlington took the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh when the Hardie led off the inning with a solo home run to take the game 4-3.

For the Cardinals, TJ Baker took the loss going five innings on the mound, allowing three runs on ten hits while walking three.  Tanner Guindon took over for Baker after two batters in the sixth inning and went three innings, allowing a run on two hits, walking three batters and striking out two.

For Burlington, Dylan Perego started the game and went six innings, allowing three runs, only one was earned, on seven hits and striking out two batters.  Brandon Catena picked up the win in relief going two innings, allowing two hits and striking out one.  Blake Weston pitched the ninth and got a strikeout to pick up the save.

With the loss the Bandits move a game ahead of the Cardinals for sixth place.  The teams will hook up once again on Friday night, this time at Bernie Arbour in Hamilton, for game five of the Skyway Series with the Cardinals leading it three games to one.  First pitch on Friday night is 7:30pm.
