The Dr. Gene Sutton Club Excellence Award was established by the City of Hamilton in 2010 to recognize a model sports or recreation organization that provides quality youth programming, promotes healthy living, exemplifies respect for sport and fair play, and is a role model for youth in the Hamilton community. The award is named after Dr. Gene Sutton who was dedicated to quality amateur sport in Hamilton. Dr. Sutton was an advocate for providing a safe, healthy, and fun environment for youth in sport and encouraged sportsmanship and fair play.
2010 Winner - Stoney Creek Girls Hockey Association Presented to a sports or recreation organization that exemplifies healthy living through sport. The Stoney Creek Girls Hockey Association has been providing quality girls hockey programs for 37 years. They have taken a leadership role in promoting healthy living to the youth and the community by implementing a tobacco-free policy and promoting healthy eating to its members. The Stoney Creek Girls Hockey Association also demonstrates a commitment to preventing injuries and promoting sportsmanship among its players, parents, and coaches.
